THE JANESVILLE — According to the Janesville Police Department, an eighth-grader from Janesville was apprehended on Wednesday after allegedly making terrorist threats at Marshall Middle School.

The middle school School Resource Officer was informed of a threat made by a 14-year-old eighth-grade student by the school administration, according to Sgt. Benjamin Thompson in a Nixle.

The kid was located and placed in isolation by the SRO and school administration; no weapons were discovered in the student’s locker, backpack, or on them.

Officers interviewed a number of witnesses who had informed the administration of the threat during the course of the inquiry.

Officers carried out a search warrant at the student’s home at 2:00 p.m. and discovered four weapons and “miscellaneous technological equipment.” This stuff was stolen.

According to Thompson, the teenager is being held at the Rock County Juvenile Services Center on suspicion of making terrorist threats. This situation is still being looked into.

The investigation was successful, according to Thompson, in part because witnesses alerted the school’s management to the student’s alarming behavior.

He advised anyone with information about someone displaying early warning signs of premeditated violence to contact the Janesville Police Department at 608-755-3100, the Rock County Communications Center at 608-757-2244, Crime Stoppers at 608-756-3636 or submit a tip through the P3 app on their smartphone.
