A gunshot occurred late Friday night at a Starkville High School football scrimmage.
According to a Starkville Police Department spokesman, officers rushed to the SHS parking lot around 12:30 a.m. to assist the school’s law enforcement after receiving reports of rounds fired.
There were no reported injuries. There have been no arrests thus far. Before the season began, the SHS football team held its “Midnight Madness” scrimmage.
According to the police, they will collaborate with the school system to strengthen security for future midnight madness activities.
According to a statement on the school system’s Facebook page, Superintendent Dr. Tony McGee is working with local police and school district police to figure out what happened. More information will be released as it becomes available.
