WWE’s chief content officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, also announced Rotunda’s death on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda – also known as Bray Wyatt – unexpectedly passed earlier today. Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time,” Levesque added.

Rotunda’s most recent match was against rising WWE star LA Knight in January at the premium live event Royal Rumble, billed as the first-ever Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match. Rotunda had not performed since then, owing to health concerns. Tributes to Rotunda began to flow in from his classmates and friends almost instantly.

“I’m heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing. Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family. Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with @wwe universe,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrote on X.

It is a unique, calm, and rare character, which is difficult to create in our crazy pro wrestling world. I’m still reeling from yesterday’s loss of the goat, Terry Funk, and now Bray today. My love, light, strength, and mana to the Rotunda and Funk families during this difficult, heartbreaking time.

Alexis Cabrera, also known as Alexis Bliss, who performed alongside Rotunda as The Fiend persona, expressed shock at his death.

Rotunda began his WWE career in 2010 under the alias Husky Harris, under the developmental brand NXT. In 2014, he was promoted to the main roster as the cult leader Bray Wyatt of the Wyatt Family faction, including Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Braun Strowman.

He was recognized as one of the best talkers of his period, enticing audiences with the catchphrase “follow the buzzards” and frequently singing “he’s got the whole world in his hands.”

Rotunda won several championships with WWE, including the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship.

The corporation let Rotunda go in July 2021, but she returned triumphantly in October 2022. He took on the persona of The Fiend, a demonic creature who dressed like Mr. Rogers in a Firefly Funhouse with mad puppets.

Rotunda, a third-generation wrestler, was the son of WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, who wrestled for the organization as IRS. Rotunda’s grandfather was Blackjack Mulligan, and his uncles were Barry and Kendall Windham. Rotunda performed with his brother, Taylor Michael Rotunda, better known as Bo Dallas.

Rotunda’s partner, former WWE ring announcer JoJo Offerman, and their two children survive him. Rotunda had two other children from a prior relationship.
