On February 24, 2023, Benito Carrillo (Ben), 89, of Merrillville, Indiana, formerly of East Chicago, Indiana, died away quietly with his devoted wife and daughters by his side.
In addition to his two daughters, Monica (Patrick) Carrillo-Klein and Marsha A. Rodriguez, Benito is also survived by his sister, Maria Ramos, brother Andrew Carrillo, sister Margaret Carrillo, grandchildren Rebekah (Beverly) Klein-Brook, Patrick Klein, Rachel (Christopher) Evans, Mary Klein, and Maximillian Klein, great-grandchildren Honour Klein-Brook and Jolene Klein, and numerous devoted nieces and nephews.
His parents, José and Pasquala Carrillo, and his brother, Guadalupe Carrillo, predeceased him. After completing his high school education at East Chicago, Washington, he joined the US Army and participated throughout the Korean War.
Benito, an Industrial X-Ray Technician who worked for UTLX in East Chicago for 52 years before retiring in 2008, set a record that has never been surpassed.
He participated actively in the Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus Council 4047 at St. Andrews Catholic Church (St. Martyrs) in Merrillville, where he volunteered whenever needed.
He was a firm believer in the importance of family. After retiring, he enjoyed being outside, exploring the contiguous United States, photographing, building things out of wood, and watching the PBR and college basketball.

Mischler will officiate in a Mass of Christian Burial on March 4, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7667 E. 109th Avenue, Crown Point, IN.
