Davin Tukua, a 16-year-old student at Century High School, was killed in a car accident on October 7, 2023. The cause of the crash is still unknown, but Kent Pekel, the director of Century High School, told parents and students in an email that the teen had died.
It was in the email that Pekel said he couldn’t talk about the crash that killed Davin Tukua. He told the students that he was there for them and that Century’s counseling and social work team would be there to help them if they needed it.
“Earlier this evening we learned of a Century High School student who died in a car accident late this afternoon. In light of this tragic loss, we considered cancelling the homecoming dance at Century High School this evening, but given the time at which we found out about the student’s death, canceling the dance was not a viable option.”

Davin Tukua’s Fundraiser: Embracing a Life Cut Short
After the terrible death of Davin Tukua, his devastated family started a GoFundMe effort to help pay for the funeral and give the parents money while they grieve.
A fundraiser with over 200 donors made $9,825 and talked about what an amazing young man the teen was. They said he loved to try new things and was always excited about life.
“Davin was an incredible young man: an amazing son and brother, an adventurous cousin, kind, gentle & fun with his younger cousins and a wonderful friend to so many people. His bright smile and energy always lit up a room. His memory will forever be cherished as a bright light extinguished far too soon.”
Mike Tukua, Davin’s father, wrote an emotional ode to his son’s life, describing him as a polite young man who was very smart and kind.
“I love you Davin and will never forget about you and all the wonderful times we had together. You will forever be in my heart and everyone else’s heart that you touched with your kindness in the very short time you were here with us in this world. Davin was such a kind, polite, respectful young boy and so full of life.”
People in the community also came together to support the devastated family and used social media to ask others to give. A family friend wrote:
“Ayden’s friend tragically passed away last night in a car accident if you can donate to help this family even if you don’t know them every $ helps because no mother or father should ever get this news that their child is gone, so let’s at least help the financial burden and do our part as a community.”
A 16-year-old North Delta School girl named Lindy Ward was also killed in a similar accident on Saturday, September 23.
