June 30 – A truck hauling a shipping container drove off the road. It collided with numerous vehicles on Friday evening in Londiani, western Kenya, ki!!ing at least 48 people, according to police and witnesses.
Local broadcasters’ footage of the accident’s aftermath showed minibuses and trucks with damage alongside mangled wreckages of cars and motorcycles.
Tom Odera, the regional police chief, reported that as of Friday night, 48 people had d!ed.
“I saw a speeding oncoming trailer. I swerved and escaped hitting him head-on. The person who was behind me thought I wanted to buy something. He overtook me and that is when he was hit. The trailer went off the road and hit other vehicles,” said driver Peter Otieno.
“I saw about 20 bodies with my own eyes. There were other bodies that were under the vehicle.”

The lorry hit more than six cars and ran over pedestrians, as reported by the Kenya Red Cross. The Red Cross also stated that more than 20 injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals.
