Roger Whittaker was born on 22 March 1936. He is a Kenyan/British singer-songwriter and musician. His music is an eclectic blend of folk music, popular music, and radio airplay favorites. He is best known for his baritone vocal voice, signature whistling talent, and guitar abilities.

“Durham Town (The Leavin’)” (1969) and “I Don’t Believe in ‘If’ Anymore” (1970) are his most well-known works. American audiences are most familiar with his 1970 hit “New World in the Morning” and his 1975 hit “The Last Farewell.” “The Last Farewell” is his only single to make the Billboard Hot 100 (it reached the Top 20) and the Adult Contemporary chart at No. 1. 1982’s “Albany” was his final number-one single in West Germany.

On 1 April 1989, Whittaker’s parents (still residing in Kenya) were brutally attacked by a squad of four men, who tortured his mother for eight hours and murdered his father. His mother returned to England following the incident.
