On February 23, 2023, Alan “Smokey” Cooper, 77, of Jackson Township, passed away at The Meadows Nursing Home. He was a Shavertown native, the late Robert and Dorothy Wilcox Cooper’s son, and a Lake-Lehman High School alumnus.
Before retiring, he spent several years working in the road construction sector for American Asphalt and Pennsy Supplies. After retiring, Big Al worked as a delivery driver for Advanced Auto.
Alan had also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Jackson Twp. Fire Department. The Huntsville United Methodist Church was where he belonged.
Over the years, hunting, snowmobiling, and spending time with his grand puppies Apex, Hans, and Sadie were some of his favorite pastimes. They cherished their Poppyseed and were the joy of his life. Grant and Gary Cooper, Alan’s brothers, predeceased him.

His daughter Nicole Cooper-Cefalo and her husband Marc, both of Mountain Top, his son Alan Cooper, of Shavertown, his sister Jane Smith, as well as his cherished granddogs Apex, Hans, and Sadie, all survive.
The Rev. Robert Zanicky will preside over the funeral services on Monday at 10 a.m. from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Drive, Dallas. Chapel Lawn Memorial Park in Dallas will be the site of the burial. On Sunday, friends may call between 6 and 8 p.m.
