While spending the winter in Naples, Florida, with his wife Margaret, Daniel Pehrson, age 69, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
He spent his final days basking in the sunshine he loved and watching the dolphins and boats in Doctors Pass.
His 44-year-old wife, Margaret Pehrson of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and his mother, Dorothy Pehrson of Shelby Township, Michigan.
His brothers, Michael and Steven Pehrson of Macomb, Michigan, his nieces Michelle Schuyler of Northville, Michigan, and Kate Felcyn of Macomb, Michigan, and his grand nieces and nephews Michael & Hannah Schuyler and Nora, Molly, and Frank Felcyn, survive him.
He was a beloved brother-in-law to John Troscinski (Susan) of Spring, TX, and Michael Troscinski of Rochester Hills, MI.
James Troscinski (Renee) of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, Robert Troscinski of Valencia, CA, and dear uncle to Nathan Troscinski (Jessica) of San Francisco, Neal Troscinski of Cincinnati, OH, Maria Troscinski of Grosse Pointe, MI and Adam Troscinski of Dallas, TX.
The son of Dorothy and the late Allen Donald Pehrson, Dan was born on April 22, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended St. Hilary’s Grade School in Redford and earned the rank of Eagle Scout there (Troop 473).
While attending Bishop Borgess High School in Redford, he held numerous AAU swimming records and earned cross-country and track letters. He received a B.A.
He earned a bachelor of science in economics in 1976 from Michigan State University. He also met “my Margaret” in 1973 while living next door to his sister in Holden Hall and playing track his freshman year.
They married in 1978 after graduation, and for over 20 years, they supported MSU as donors and season ticket holders. Dan graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Delaware’s Stonier School of Banking between 1993 and 1995.
They briefly relocated to Boston in 1979 for training with the US Comptroller of the Currency before returning to Michigan, which they have called home ever since. Since 1985, they have lived in Rochester Hills.
Dan started his lengthy and prosperous banking career in 1978 as a National Bank Examiner for the United States Treasury, OCC.
After finishing a banking examination at Michigan National Bank, he was recruited to join their commercial banking team in 1980 to create a portfolio of middle-market loans before Manufacturers National Bank of Detroit’s 1992 merger with Comerica.
He was hired as a Vice President by the Middle Market Banking Group in 1984. By 1990, he had been elevated to First Vice President and Group Leader.
LaSalle National Bank approached Dan in 1997 about establishing a new middle market lending division at a savings and loan association (Standard Federal Bank).
He was made Senior Vice President of the combined middle market lending business in 2001, following the bank’s acquisition of Michigan National Bank.
He was promoted in 2007 to Group Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending at LaSalle National Bank-Michigan.
The Chicago-based PrivateBank hired Dan in 2007 to launch a Michigan middle market lending division. In 2017, following PrivateBank’s acquisition by CIBC, he was named Market President for the Michigan division. In 2009, he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of the PrivateBank-Michigan.
Dan served for many years on the Wayne County Sheriff’s Education Fund boards, the Michigan Opera Theater Board of Trustees & Finance Committee, Life Directions, and Automation Alley, and was most recently named to the Koch Family Foundation’s Scholarship Committee.
He engaged in and supported numerous charities, organizations, and golf outings during his banking career. He was a Hunters Creek Club member who loved bird hunting.
In addition to being a 23-year Pine Lake Country Club member and a member of the Detroit Athletic Club since 2003, he enjoyed boating and playing golf.

The COVID-19 pandemic prevented him and Margaret from continuing their global travels after he retired from CIBC National Bank in April 2020 at 67.
However, they could still go on one final journey together, spending a month in Spain and Portugal in October. Dan was a devoted global traveler who had already visited over 65 nations and had a ton more travel planned in the future.
Dan enjoyed welcoming family and friends to their holiday house on Bob-Lo Island in Amherstburg, Canada. He enjoyed reading, sunbathing, and sitting by the water watching the freighters.
He adored gardening, entertaining, baking, dining out, and cooking. Dan was the first person his friends phoned whether they got tickets to an event or wanted to start the party since he loved being around people. He made life enjoyable by loving it.
He was a trustworthy buddy with a kind heart and a bright attitude in life that he used to inspire those around him. Dan had a special bond with his nieces and nephews that they would carry for the rest of their lives. Many people will miss him terribly!
On April 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., a funeral mass will be celebrated for anybody willing to pay their respects. In Rochester, Michigan, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1400 Inglewood Avenue.
