2 Lost And 2 Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash On Highway 26

A multiple-vehicle incident on Highway 26 resulted in two deaths and two significant injuries.

On Tuesday, just after 12:30 p.m., OSP responded to the crash near Milepost 52. According to police, Frederick Kortlever, 90, was driving east in a white Ford F-250 when it swerved from the lane and collided head-on with Erez Mayer, 50, causing west in a silver GMC Savannah.

Moments later, a black Honda driven by John Larson, 23, collided with Kortlever’s car as it stopped in the westbound lane, according to OSP.

Kortlever and Mayer were pronounced dead on the spot. According to investigators, the two passengers in the GMC, a 16-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old boy, were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. According to authorities, Larson and his passenger, Alexander Baumgardt, 21, were unharmed.
