Loved ones and the Georgia film community are mourning the loss of a father and his two young kids. Taraja Ramsess, 41, lost her life in a tractor-trailer accident in DeKalb County late on Halloween night, along with his 13-year-old daughter and baby daughter. It occurred on the I-285 to I-20 eastbound exit ramp.
Famous movie director Ava DuVernay shared her sadness on Instagram about Taraja’s passing and sent condolences to his family.
DuVernay mentioned that Taraja was like family at ARRAY, their film company. He had a deep passion for making movies and TV shows and had worked in various roles in the industry, such as in the art department, as a grip, a camera person, and even as a stuntman over the years.

DuVernay wrote in the post,
“I remember one day on set, we didn’t have enough Black background actors for a key scene. I had to recruit my crew members to be on-camera. Taraja was the first to say yes. Yes, I’ll do my real job and then jump into this wild scene playing a tough guy with a gun for you. From there – everyone else said yes too.”
DuVernay continues,
“He was that kind of person. A leader. A light. Taraja. His name is like music. We will continue to sing it. Bless his soul. Bless his memory. Bless his loved ones and the many comrades he leaves here as he journeys on.”
