Zoosk: Its Pros and Cons; What Can You Expect?

Are you planning to use a dating platform and wondering if Zoosk is the right choice for you? You are at the right place! Here’s the review that will give you a clear understanding of its features, usability, pros, cons, and whether it’s worth your time and money.

What is Zoosk?

What is Zoosk

It was one of the first integrated Facebook apps, launched in 2007, and it was an easy-to-use dating app that allowed users to sign up using their Facebook or Google account. However, this also meant sharing personal information, which many users might not be comfortable with. Zoosk doesn’t require you to create detailed profiles, which makes finding a perfect match challenging. Although new virtual dating features keep it modern, technical issues prevent it from becoming one of the best dating apps.

Shayan Zadeh and Alex Mehr were the company’s CEO until December 2014, after which Kelly Steckelberg took over. It was acquired by Spark Networks SE in July 2019, making it the second-largest dating company in North America in terms of revenue.

Zoosk is available in over 80 countries, translated into 25 languages, and has about 40 million users.

How does it work?

How does Zoosk work

It is available as an Android app and iOS app, and on a web browser as well. Whichever platform you choose, the app requires a sign-up using a Facebook or Google account. If you don’t link it to either account, you will have to create your profile from scratch with minimal details. After you fill out your age and information about who you are looking for, the app asks you to upload a photo and complete a brief self-assessment. Then, you are ready to browse. As you browse, Zoosk asks you to add more information to your profile and confirm your email.

The search is quick, easy, and practical, unlike other apps that require you to upgrade to view profiles that you have already rejected! Here, the focus is more on profile pictures than personal details.

The app also features a Carousel, a search function where you can tap a red X or a green check to skip or like a member, and tap a yellow star button to send a crush, which is only available to upgraded members. However, once you make a choice, you can’t view the person’s complete profile, and the app will ask you to pay extra if you change your mind.

The app’s interface is basic. However, as you browse through the profiles, you might see more ads compared to other dating apps. Zoosk also utilizes a Behavioral Matchmaking algorithm to understand your preferences and suggest more suitable matches.

What kind of people are on Zoosk?

This app is designed for singles seeking serious relationships or casual connections. The age range of the users varies, from 18 to 51 years old. Interestingly, users as old as 98 can make an account. However, Zoosk is not the best option for older individuals.

Although its user base is impressive, with 40 million users, concerns exist about inactive or fake profiles. Zoosk doesn’t have many success stories on its social media or blog. If your match hasn’t replied, it’s possible they haven’t logged in for a long time.

Our opinion

Our Opinion About Zoosk

Every dating app has its share of issues, and nothing can be trusted completely. Although Zoosk has a large user base and a quick sign-up process, you should exercise caution when interacting with individuals, as there are several fake or inactive profiles. A background check is essential before entering a serious relationship. The design also feels outdated and confusing to navigate, and most features require payment. Overall, we rate Zoosk as a decent dating app.
